Camera Monitoring System

The all-new VNL features a host of new camera solutions. On the cutting edge is our innovative, fully-integrated Camera Monitoring System (CMS). It replaces traditional side mirrors and provides better aerodynamics because they are mounted inside the cab on the A-pillar. It provides superior visibility, which can help drivers make safer lane changes and backing maneuvers. Available soon on the VNL, the system features infra-red technology that creates sharper views in low light for easier, safer operation at night. It also offers reference lines that indicate the rear of the trailer and cameras that track the trailer’s rear corners. The cameras sit high about each door, offering an overall wider viewing angle and reduced road spray effects. The CMS is supported by small, highly aerodynamic side mirrors.

Idle Management

The all-new Volvo VNL series features our most effective idle management tools ever. These anti-idling technologies help reduce or eliminate many of the negative impacts of engine idling when your vehicle is stopped or parked. From improved cab insulation to lower rpm standard idle settings and a new, battery-powered HVAC option, our latest innovations can help lower emissions, reduce engine wear, and save money on fuel costs.

VNL Powertrain

The next-generation D13 engine is now available in three classes: Straight Torque, Super Direct, and I-Torque for peak performance and efficiency at higher road speeds. D13 power ratings have expanded to include five options, including two new 500 HP ratings. Powertrain enhancements create 20% of the VNL’s increase in overall fuel efficiency.* Combustion improvements include a new variable-displacement oil pump and a seven-wave piston design. The new after treatment system offers improved serviceability, including a swivel cover on the DPF. The after treatment unit is also nearly 75 lbs. lighter than our previous units.
